Obituary:

Clarence W Neher passed away October 25, 2010 at a age of 87 years. Clarence was born September 20, 1923 in Pomona, California to Virgil William Neher and Ollie Barbara Neher. He was a Life Member of the Elks and a member of American Radio Relay League and held Amateur License W6JQR since 1951. Clarence graduated from Bonita High School in La Verne, California in 1941. After joining the US Navy SeaBees during WWII for the "Duration Plus Six Months" he returned to civilian life. Clarence met Billie Lou Parsons from Fontana, California and they were married in 1947 in La Verne, California. They went to San Luis Obispo, California where Clarence graduated from Cal Poly on the "GI Bill" with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. Billie and Clarence raised their two children, David and Elizabeth in Long Beach California. They moved to Lake Arrowhead, California after the children left home in 1980. They relocated to Frisco, Texas in 2008 for their late retirement years. They were active in the Frisco Senior Center activities as well as the Lebanon Baptist Church. Clarence had a real love for airplanes. He worked as Controls Design Engineer for (Douglas Aircraft) McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 29 years. He took advantage of an early retirement from McDonnell Douglas in 1980 and continued working as a Contract Engineer for various aerospace companies for another 28 years. His design activities were on many aerospace vehicles including C-133, RB-66, DC-9, DC-10, YC-15, C-17, 737, C-130, AGM and three different helicopters. He was always ready for a design challenge and eager for change of work locations and enjoyed meeting and working with new colleagues. Clarence holds three design patents that were used in aerospace programs. His wife, Billie, a son, David, a daughter, Elizabeth, seven grandchildren and nine great-grand children, and many friends survive him. A Funeral Service will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church Wednesday October 27, 2010 at 10:00am. This very short notice mission was well attended by the PGR members. Several riders rode long distances to make this mission and three new riders also attended this mission.

After the briefing, five big flag bikes moved to the holding area to await the family. The other riders were dispatched to Shelter B to prepare for the service.

While meeting with the immediate family it was determined that the son, David, was a Viet Nam vet who served two tours in riverboats. He was thanked for his service and welcomed home. The daughter was impressed with the big flag bike escort and our presentation of the flags at the shelter and said her Dad would be very pleased.

A very special thank you to the family for allowing us to honor one of the Greatest Generation heroes.
